Hello,

may I ask, I generated sitemap with Yoast but the GSC says that the sitemap can be read, but contains errors.

The error is that the sitemap is empty and contains no URLs:

Anyone had a similar issue?

thanks

Sitemap file flagged as malicious

Hi
I have a free version of Yoast SEO plugin. For the past few months my Wordfence Security scan has been flagging a sitemap file as possibly having a malicious code indicating a hacking attempt.

I’ve reached out to WF support – they traced it to an image in the media library which for some reason is identified in the sitemap with a randomised URL which is suspicious.

I have removed that image and replaced it with a new one with a different name – again, the WF scan has flagged it as infected. Before I tell the scan to ignore this and similar files – I need to know beyond all doubt that it is NOT infected or otherwise unsafe. Additionally, I can’t delete this file (which I should be able to do) – it has some protection built in.

Could please advise ASAP why is your plugin creating randomised URLs for my files in a sitemap – this should not be happening. Also, why does the plugin include an image in the sitemap, anyway?

If you’d like to see the details of this file, I can send it to you via email, prefer not to post it on a public forum.

If all this is too strange and you confirm that such a file could not be created by your plugin – it is definitely a hacking attempt.

I look forward to your advice.

thanks

Developer Question: Process array values for all schema pieces.

Hello,

I want to process programmatically the JSON-LD values for each schema piece before it’s output with purpose to replace or change the value. I found out that there has been a wpseo_json_ld_output hook before but it does no longer work and is deprecated. There is a wpseo_schema_<class> hook which I’ve found but where do I get the clases names to filter the values? Is this the way?

Thanks.

Hi,

I’m having problems changing the open graph titles and descriptions on one of my websites.

First thing I noticed was that the option to change these via Yoast>> Social>> Facebook/Twitter has now been removed, and only an option to upload an image remains.

So I thought I’d try using the page settings.

Easy to do in theory – all the titles and descriptions could be changed from the front page settings itself.

However, on checking the source code, the old title and meta description were still there.

So – how can I change the open graph titles and descriptions now?

the category archive page has 2 urls

How is my meta description being generated

Hi

I’ve added a link to the Google output when I search for my site Healthy Happy Woman.

What I’ve noticed is that the meta description is exactly the same for every entry on the page when I use Yoast SEO to write the meta description. What shows is the content of the first of the three footer widgets in the site.

When I don’t use Yoast SEO to write the meta descriptions then the first few lines of the post appears instead as a much more appropriate meta description.

Can you give me some insight into why this is happening and what, if anything, I can do about it?

Thanks in anticipation

Yoast plugin disable reply link on blog replies

For some reason I can’t reply to a reply on a blog post. When it is working (when Yoast SEO plugin isn’t activated) a querystring “?replytocom=xx” is appended to the reply link. And that is not happening when Yoast SEO plugin is activated. In other words Yoast SEO plugin is causing the issue for some reason.

I’m running the latest version of Yoast SEO free plugin and the latest version of Buddyboss platform.

Force canonical Update after site transfer

Hi. Noticed an interesting case. After site being successfully transferred to a new domain all old posts have canonicals with old domain name while new pages have been created with new domain canonical. When I unable the plugin, canonical updates, but with active Yoast all remains the same. When I update the post (using resave), canonical updates well. Is there any way to change old canonical domain for all my posts (6k)? Thanks

Google won’t index my blog pages

Google Search Console says:
– Crawl allowed? Yes
– Page fetch? Successful
– Indexing allowed? No: ‘noindex’ detected in ‘robots’ meta tag

BUT
source code says:
<meta name=”robots” content=”index, follow” />

This is happening on all but one of my blog pages AND the blog archive.
The home page has been indexed.

Somebody told me there have been reports of similar problems since the latest Yoast update.

Issue with canonical link – homepage

Hello,
I looked for similar topics, but couldn’t fine anything that looked like the same issue, so here I am.

Very recently we realised that Yoast had added to our home pages in Italian and Spanish (we use WPML) a canonical link to pages that don’t exit, but seem to be created using the page title as URL.
As a result, the page https://www.altamirahrm.com/es/software-de-recursos-humanos-en-la-nube-altamira has started ranking on Google instead of the homepage http://www.altamirahrm.com/es. The same is happening with it/altamira-suite-di-software-hr-facili-da-usare-e-personalizzabili ranking in place of http://www.altamirahrm.com/it.
The canonical link was visible looking at the page code, but did not appear in the relative wordpress yoast section.
We have tried adding the correct homepage url in yoast canonical field, http://www.altamirahrm.com/es, but it kept showing the other url on the page code.

To fix the issue before we got into trouble with rankings, we added a redirect from https://www.altamirahrm.com/es/software-de-recursos-humanos-en-la-nube-altamira to http://www.altamirahrm.com/es and did the same for the italian version of the site. The IT team also added this code: add_filter( ‘wpseo_canonical’, ‘__return_false’ ); disabling the canonical for now.

For what reason did Yoast add this canonical? How do we solve this issue in a less drastic way?

Let me know if you need more details and I’ll try to provide them.

All the best,
Andrea

Meta Description Not Showing – Over 2 Weeks Later

Hi there,

I’ve seen multiple threads similar to this and have tried using the information in other threads. However, I’ve set my meta descriptions through Yoast over two weeks ago and the site has been crawled multiple times since without changing the description.

I can see in the source code that there appears to be two description tags on the page. When i deactive Yoast, it removes both of these tags so i believe one of which is the title.

Website for reference is https://www.easymaid.co.uk

Thanks for any help.

Canonical and next links point to a different website–fix by reset indexable

TL;DR Recently we have had some very strange results on our blog. We traced it to an issue in the indexable table. Clearing that table fixes the issue.

1. We first noticed that Wordfence was reporting hack attempts that it was blocking, but where the userid was from a different blog that we operate, but that should have no connection to the site in question. That is, there should not be a normal way for hackers to be attempting to use userid values from the other site. This was a mystery for several weeks.

2. Later we noticed that the home page of our blog had canonical and link tags pointing to the other site. This would lead spiders and bots to traverse the other blog, and would probably explain the mysterious hack attempts.

3. We could not see how to fix the issue. All of the documentation on changing canonical tags starts out with “go to the page” and change the Yoast canonical setting. However, we do not know of any way to “go to the site home page” in the WordPress admin section–you can only go to posts or pages. The site home page is not in the posts or pages. There might be a way to do this, but we could not discover it. If you did go to any site page that you could in the admin, the Yoast canonical field was empty.

4. Just browsing through the Yoast database revealed bogus entries. There were forty some rows in the indexable table that had in their permalink column entries pointing to the other blog property. For example, a permalink that should have had https://www.oursite.net/blog/ instead had https://www.othersite.net/blog/. The domains “oursite” and “othersite” are of course placeholders. Again, a complete mystery how this could happen.

5. I found that the Yoast Test Helper has a feature to reset the indexable table. I used this feature, and the indexable table had all rows removed.

6. After the indexable table was cleared, the canonical and next tags were cleared from the blog home page.

7. As expected, the indexable table was eventually rebuilt. However, there were no permalink values that had any references to the wrong blog.

8. Checking the canonical and next tags on the home page now have the proper values that point to the proper pages in the blog. So the effect of the problem appears to be fixed, but the root cause of what caused the problem is still unknown.

Bottom line: if your blog gets canonical links pointing to a foreign blog, clear the indexable table.

hi guys been looking for an answer for this but have had no luck.
I’m using latest woo-commerce / WordPress / Astra theme and Yoast FREE seo
I have a product in more than one category and then I choose which is to be the primary category.
when i view the single product page the standard woo-commerce breadcrumb will include one of the other store categories I choose but not the primary. It will only include the primary when the product is only in one category.

Astra theme does allow for breadcrumbs to be disabled, and also offers it own breadcrumb options which seems to pull results from somewhere else.

I would like to know why products will not choose to include the primary category in the breadcrumb.
(i do not want to add code or use child themes simply for updating purposes)

will premium allow for the function to work without adding code?
thanking anyone in advanced

Hi Gang,

No matter what I do, I can’t render a sitemap with Yoast. I’ve tried disabling all plugins, cleared the cache, etc but no luck. The error I’m getting is

“This page contains the following errors:
error on line 6 at column 6: XML declaration allowed only at the start of the document
Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.”

But what page is it referring too? Other ideas? Any help will be rewarded with good karma in your general direction!

Thanks so much

Greg
